Paid Search, Organic Rankings Or Both?

When it comes to online marketing on search engines, there is a theory that you should (can) use Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising to gain presence on page one of Google (or Bing, etc.) to drive traffic to your website until your website pages rank in the top search results organically. Then you can reduce your PPC spend with Google and hope that your top ranking organic listing pays off.

However, in a 2011 study by Google, the data supports that having both a paid listing AND your organic listing in top spots has positive incremental value. How much value you ask? Assuming you can get your website to page one of Google, the study indicates that 50% – 96% of your ad clicks are actually incremental!

Here’s another way to think about it. If you can present your brand multiple times in both paid search advertising and organically in Google’s  “golden triangle” (top of page one), you are essentially reducing the number of impressions your competition gets.

The impact of organic ranking and Ad Click incrementally is shown in this Google infographic.

Looking back on Ten Years of Acumium and Forward to More SaaS and Mobile Commerce

It’s that time of year again. Time to briefly reflect and talk about the exciting things coming up. In 2011, we celebrated our 10th year as a leader in eCommerce software, Content Management software and e-Business consulting and are announcing an expansion of our products and services in 2012. One of the most notable changes is the addition of its GravityMarket eCommerce platform (serving mid-market e-tailers) to its portfolio of Software as a Service (SaaS) products. As a result, Acumium will have a SaaS offering for its CMS, Enterprise eCommerce AND Mid-market eCommerce customers.

Benefits of SaaS include:

  • More accurate budgeting of your web development spending
  • Quicker access to advancements in the platform and services should you opt-in
  • Opportunity to contribute to the list of new platform features and enhancements
  • One price covering hosting, support, maintenance, new standard features and more.

Other 2012 offerings:

  • Optimized eCommerce websites for tablets (e.g. iPad and Kindle)
  • Simplified and optimized sites for effective delivery on smaller mobile devices (smartphones)
  • Integrated Online Marketing services
  • Enhanced Security monitoring services

2011 Acumium investments to make these 2012 offers are possible:

Optimization

  1. Acumium has a streamlined process in place integrating with Content Delivery Networks (CDN) for website optimization.
  2. Acumium also vastly improved deliver-ability, open and download rates for its SaaS GravityMail customers

Security

As an eCommerce consultant and vendor it is vital to stay on top of PCI (Personal Credit Information) Compliance standards so encryption and security has and will remain the top priority at Acumium. Security service offerings are options for customers who want to further utilize Acumium’s expertise.

2011 Results:
Acumium’s platforms and search engine optimization advice continued to keep customers high in search engine rankings. According to industry reports, Google’s releases of the search engine algorithm Panda hurt the search results rankings of many, but the Spring and Summer Panda releases have actually helped Acumium’s clients improve their search engine rankings and generate on average, a 5.8% increase of organic traffic to their websites.

We hope you have a prosperous 2012. Stay tuned for more updates from us in the coming months.

INFOGRAPHIC: How Google Killed the Longtail of Search

As my first post, I’d like to share one of my favorite things in the world: an Infographic! Unfortunately, this post has a negative connotation but bear with me. We frequently have conversations with clients about the value of longtail keywords in their SEO/SEM strategies. The folks at SEO Book recently shared an explanation of how changes to Google’s search algorithm and user experience have had a negative effect on longtail keywords. Does this mean you should stop using long tail keywords? No. This just means the competition for top 5 ranking continues to grow.

How Google Killed the Longtail Infographic.
